GM Design Fabrication

Working with the fabrication team in GM, was the part of design I enjoyed the most because I could see ideas come to life through incredible trades people with specialized knowledge. Below I have shared a published story on the ‘Escala’ program.

This was Cadillac’s newest show car. Color & Trim are always involved as we are the material and finish experts, every surface needs to be vetted through our leaders.

The images show some of the many processes and steps it takes to make a ‘fabrication vehicle’ meaning there are no real manufactured parts, everything is made in house.

The shop requires a whole production sequence that is different from the work we do on real cars for manufacturing. It’s an intensive process, but ultimately there is no other way to fully understand the design language and detailing of a vehicle if it is not built to scale and with real finishes. This then becomes a valuable tool to use for in house reviews, media events and supplier meetings.
